Trek to Harishchandragad...



After an outstanding and unforgettable trek to Kas forest, got worried about the new trek menu.
after a long duration with no trips, I decided to find a place to chill.
and finally We got it: 'Harishchandragad', Malshej Ghat, (Nagar)
ठाणे, पुणे आणि नगर जिल्ह्यांच्या सीमेवर माळशेज घाटाच्या डावीकडे उभा असणारा अजस्त्र पर्वत म्हणजे हरिश्चंद्रगड होय. या गडाचा इतिहास कुतूहलजनक तर भूगोल हा विस्मयकारक आहे. हरिश्चंद्रगडाला दोन हजार वर्षापूर्वीची पौराणिक पाश्वर्भूमी लाभली आहे. साडेतीन हजार वर्षांहूनही प्राचीन असलेल्या चहुबाजूंनी तुटलेल्या रौद्रभीषण कडेकपारींनी नैसर्गिक संरक्षण लाभलेल्या हरिश्चंद्रगडाचा उल्लेख प्राचीन अग्नीपुराणात व मत्स्यपुराणात आढळतो.
  • Base village : Khireshwar
  • Appx. time to reach the top : 4-5 hrs from the base village
  • Visit duration (min.) : 2 days
  • Water availability : The water is available in the tanks near the caves. Carry ample amount of water from Khireshwar. After Khireshwar there are no water sources in the way till you get to the caves.
  • Food :in summer and monsoon, one should make the arrangement himself.
  • Shelter : Ganesh caves & caves near the temple of Harishchandreshwar.

 Harishchandragad from Pune

1) Catch an ST from Pune towards Alephata.
2) Get down at Alephata & catch another ST moving for Kalyan (strictly going via Malshej Ghat).
3) To trek Harishchandragad via Tolar Khind (Khireshwar), get down at Khubi Phata. Khubi Phata comes just before the Malshej Ghat.
4) To trek Harishchandragad via Nalchi Vaat, Rajmarga or Sadhleghat, get down at Savarne. Savarne arrives just after the end of Malshej Ghat

(Harishchandragad is one of the (third) highest peak of Maharashtra which is approx. 1220 m high)

    is there any direct bus to Harishchandragad from pune?

      there is daily bus service available from pune to khireshwar which is base village for trekking Harishchandragad at 4:30am and 7:30am from Shivajinagar, Pune. else you can take any bus to reach alephata. from there take any bus heading to Kalyan and reach Khubi phata which is just before the Malshej ghat. get down at khubi phata and walk for 4.7 km through the wall of dam. from there you can get further information about the trekking track which will take you to the 2nd highest peak of Maharashtra.

      yes. we can stay on the fort.. as the trek takes 4-5 hours, trekkers usually likes to stay here.
      you can bring ur own tent or u can stay in the Ganesh caves that are present on fort. Remember to carry plenty of drinking water though it is available on the fort but as it is sometimes not potable. carry sufficient blankets.
